If you have fat that won’t go away, your treatment provider can help. CoolSculpting is a non-surgical way to reduce fat in a specific location. This treatment can address several areas—is your chin one of them?

Continue reading to learn more about CoolSculpting, including what it is, how it works, and what areas of the body it can treat.

What Is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is the brand name for a treatment method called cryolipolysis. It’s a form of fat reduction where freezing temperatures help break down fat cells. It’s an effective non-surgical way to eliminate stubborn fat.

Cold temperatures are usually associated with the risks of frostbite, but this treatment is safe. Fat freezes at a higher temperature than the skin, so CoolSculpting cools your fat enough to treat it without damaging your skin.

CoolSculpting can address fat in many different locations of your body, helping you feel more confident.

How Effective is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting treatment can effectively remove stubborn areas of fat. Your body gets rid of the frozen and broken-down fat tissue over the next couple of months. Fat typically decreases in a treated area by an average of 20%-25%

A 2020 study discovered that cryolipolysis applicators are safe and effective for quickly reducing fat in various areas. A 2015 review of 19 different studies found that CoolSculpting is an overall effective treatment.

Cryolipolysis has a high success and satisfaction rate, but it’s important to understand it isn’t a weight-loss treatment. CoolSculpting is ideal for getting rid of stubborn fat in specific areas of the body.

While CoolSculpting can help destroy fat cells and results are permanent, it can’t prevent new cells from developing. A healthy lifestyle is the best way to preserve the results of this treatment.

How Does CoolSculpting Work?

CoolSculpting uses a controlled temperature to freeze fat cells in a targeted area. Your treatment provider identifies the ideal applicator for the chosen treatment area based on size and the location of the body. This applicator goes on the treatment area and sucks a portion of skin into a chamber of controlled temperature.

You’ll feel a slight tugging and then a cooling sensation once treatment begins. Some people experience a mild pulling, pinching, cramping, or aching sensation, but these feelings subside as treatment continues. After removing the applicator, your treatment provider will massage the area to assist in the breaking up of fat cells.

Your body slowly disposes of these dead cells after treatment finishes. This process occurs over 4 to 6 months.

Potential Side Effects

CoolSculpting is non-invasive, so there isn’t a risk of complications with anesthesia, medications, or incisions. Previous research found that fewer than 1% of the studied patients reported adverse effects with this treatment. There is no risk of serious side effects such as bleeding, scarring, or skin pigment changes.

While the chance of side effects is low, you may still experience them. Some possible complications include

  • Less sensation in the treatment area
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Sensitivity
  • Redness
  • Discomfort

CoolSculpting is an overall safe and effective procedure for many areas of your body. If you’re interested in this treatment, can it help get rid of a double chin? What areas can CoolSculpting treat?

CoolSculpting Alternatives

There are other ways to achieve a defined jawline besides CoolSculpting. You can obtain a youthful and confident look with the help of Evoke or Belkyra.

Evoke

Evoke is a non-invasive treatment for facial remodelling and rejuvenation. It uses a hands-free device to send bipolar radiofrequency (RF) energy deep into the layers of your skin. The consistent temperature helps to promote collagen production to remodel and tighten the skin around your neck, chin, and jawline.

This treatment has several benefits—it:

  • Creates a smooth skin texture
  • Tones & tightens the skin
  • Promotes a youthful appearance
  • Provides a non-invasive, effective treatment

Belkyra

Belkyra helps dissolve fat around your neck, chin, and jawline. You receive an injection into the tissue under your chin, releasing deoxycholic acid into your body. This ingredient helps dissolve fat cell membranes that your body then removes naturally.

Both of these treatments can help treat stubborn fat around your chin. Speaking with a professional can help if you’re unsure what treatment is best for your needs.

Is CoolSculpting Right for You?

The best way to determine if CoolSculpting or another treatment is for you is by meeting with your treatment provider. You can discuss your goals and eligibility for treatment during a consultation. Afterwards, your treatment provider will work with you to create a customized treatment plan for your needs.
