Luscious lips have often been a symbol of beauty over the years, but that doesn’t mean everybody naturally has them. Fortunately, you can now achieve the look you want with lip injections—specific types of dermal fillers that can be injected into the loop to give you that full, plump look. But how long do these lip injections last?
Typically, the injections used at Zulu Medical Cosmetics last up to 2 years. After this point, you’ll need to return for another injection if you want to retain your full lips. And if you’re unsatisfied with the results of your initial injection, you can return once the filler has stabilized for further injections so you can reach your aesthetic goals.
How Do Lip Injections Work?
Lip injections involve the use of dermal fillers to enhance the shape, volume, and structure of the lips. These fillers are typically made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body.
When injected by a trained and experienced medical professional, this hyaluronic acid is excellent for adding volume to specific areas. It helps to remove age lines, fine lines, and wrinkles from the skin by helping to stimulate collagen production.
And when performed by a skilled injector, it can be used to redefine the borders of the lips and correct asymmetry. This added definition can enhance your natural beauty and add volume to your lips while slightly changing their shape to one that you’re more comfortable with.
The Different Types of Lip Injections
At Zulu Medical Cosmetics, we offer two main types of lip injections:
Teosyal® is designed with your natural beauty in mind. These fillers are designed to be a progressive and long-lasting option. You’ll likely notice results almost immediately after treatment, and Teosyal® will continue improving your skin for weeks afterward.
On the other hand, Juvederm® takes an effective approach to treating fine lines and wrinkles. However, it’s temporary—you may need several sessions before you start to notice results.
To determine which option is right for you, it can help to speak to our team. Before any injections, we recommend a consultation appointment so we can determine what will help you achieve the results you’re looking for. Sometimes, we can perform the consultation and injections on the same day!
Do Lip Injections Last Forever?
Unfortunately, lip injections aren’t permanent. However, you’ll likely notice immediate results after the initial injection, and these results typically last about 1 year. The lifespan of your injections depends greatly on:
- The type of filler used
- Your metabolism
- Your lifestyle
If you’d like more volume, you can always book another visit any time in the following months. If you notice that you’re starting to lose that full, youthful appearance, you can return for a follow-up injection to retain your full lips.
Are Lip Injections Safe?
Lip injections can be a completely safe procedure when they’re being performed by a trained and experienced medical professional using approved fillers. But like some other cosmetic procedures, there are some small potential risks—especially if you try to perform them on yourself with an experienced medical professional nearby.
You may notice some swelling or bruising around the injection site. Fortunately, you can apply ice or a cool compress afterward to help avoid further swelling or bruising. Try to avoid strenuous activity for a few days while things settle.
There are a few signs that something may be wrong:
- Prolonged swelling
- Visible asymmetry in the area that received the injection
- Any spreading bruising or swelling
- Visible redness or swelling
If you notice any of these signs, contact your medical professional immediately. These could be a sign of a prolonged allergic reaction or something else going wrong.
What to Expect After Getting Lip Injections
Immediately after you get your first lip injection, you’ll likely experience some tenderness around your lips. You may experience some minor swelling and bruising for a few days as well.
Your lips may feel a bit firm, solid, or bruised, but this is just the filler beginning to settle. These sensations are all temporary, and shouldn’t last longer than a week.
