Get Rid of Your Nail Infection
While toenail fungus is incredibly common and nothing to be ashamed of, many people feel embarrassed; too embarrassed to wear flip-flops or even seek treatment. The truth is that anyone could develop nail fungus. But that does not mean you just have to live with it.
Zulu Medical Cosmetics offers a custom clear step program overseen by Dr. Lombard which includes Laser treatments, shoe sterilization and pharmacotherapy over the course of one year that has proven to be highly effective.
What Is Onychomycosis & What Causes It?
Onychomycosis is a common fungal nail infection that usually affects toenails. This infection accounts for 50% of nail disorders and 33% of all fungal skin infections.
Onychomycosis most often develops when a fungus infects the nail or skin tissue on the toes. The infection causes the toenail to become yellowish, thick, brittle, and potentially painful when walking or wearing shoes.
Symptoms of onychomycosis include:
- Nail discoloration
- Flaky or crumbly nails
- Unusual nail thickness
- Yellow or white streaks under the nail
- Separation between the nail and the underlying skin.
Our Treatment Method: ClearSteps Laser Treatment
ClearSteps uses a laser to heat the tissue on and around the infected nail, killing the fungi without damaging your healthy tissue. This treatment is simple, safe, fast, and effective.
Our custom treatment plan overseen by Dr. Lombard not only includes the clear step laser treatments but also incorporates pharmacotherapy and a footwear sterilization system so that recurrent infection does not occur.
We use the Fotona laser, which uses Nd:YAG light to evenly penetrate your nail and surrounding tissue. The laser weakens and kills the fungi, leaving you with healthy nails. The procedure is effective and non-invasive.
What to Expect from Your Treatment
Your treatment will take approximately 15 minutes (for all ten nails). While you may feel a warming sensation during the procedure, you’ll be able to continue your day immediately afterwards without issue.
Step 1: We file down the nail, which allows the laser to fully penetrate and treat your onychomycosis.
Step 2: We apply the laser in a circular pattern around the entire nail. You’ll feel a heating sensation, but it should not be painful.
Step 3: We apply the laser around the perimeter of your nail to treat any fungus that has extended beyond the nail bed.
You will likely need up to 4 treatments to get optimal results. With all of your treatments completed, you’ll need to wait for a new, healthy nail to grow. This process may take up to a year, depending on the speed at which your nails grow.
